Inspired by his childhood of hunting, fishing, and kayaking in Oregon, classical pianist Hunter Noack wanted to combine both his passions to create a musical experience that connected people with the great outdoors – and so In a Landscape was born.
Rocking up with his nine-foot Steinway in tow, Hunter performs against the backdrops of national parks – like Joshua Tree and Yosemite – rural ranches, and historical sites. Concert-goers can then explore these scenic settings while listening to a live classical soundtrack via wireless headphones.
“These multi-sensory moments give you space to imagine, daydream, reflect, or get lost in the surrounding beauty,” Hunter says. “Something magical happens when you listen to Mozart and watch birds dance in the sky, or listen to Ravel with your toes in a cool creek.”
Since 2016, In a Landscape has brought 275+ concerts to life across eight US states to more than 55,000 people. As artistic director, Hunter loves collaborating with artists not typically associated with classical music, including those from the worlds of food, dance, poetry, and more.
Giving back is important to him, too. As a non-profit, In a Landscape’s events are offered primarily in rural communities for free or subsidized, and also grant money to school music programs, tribal initiatives, and other community projects.
